Baby Boomers are approaching their social security era so why in the earth do they want a Yamaha? Boomers are not like any of the previous groups of populace who have already approached sequestration. Boomers still want to continue to live their youth. They have the money to do so.

Yamahas offer entertainment, exhilaration, thrills, spills and also a place of class jealousy. Yamahas aren’t low-price so these Yuppies want to buy one and flaunt their financial status. They aren’t the quickest bikes or the easiest to ride but that isn’t an issue for a Boomer. It is all about awareness. Yamaha motorcycles, Yamaha babes, Yamaha road trips are all part of the American delusion that brings together the Boomer with his Yamaha.

The name of the Yamahas seems to point us older folks to the younger crowd. Yamaha XS, YZ and Hayabusa reminds me I need a dictionary when I am ready to ride a Yamaha. Yamaha Royal and Roadster motorcycles bring up visions of the open road. Let’s not forget the Yamaha jackets, sunglasses, riding pants and the hundreds of other must have Yamaha accessories. There is no question that Boomers may be getting old but they still want to have it all.

We even get pleasure from motorcycle auctions especially if there are some good buys on Yamahas. Shoot, we will even buy a Yamaha and just park it in the garage and wait for it to appreciate. Humorous think; it usually does.

We came of age watching biker movies, the beckoning call to Sturgis, and Hell Angels. When we sit down on that bike, we can’t help have vision of being one of that “bad” but mistaken biker. We just recognize owning a Yamaha comes with Yamaha babes (at least that is our thought process). It is probably a legend but a boomer worth his salt is certainly not going to refute it. It is all about representation and the biker image.

Bottom-line, the fine folks over at Yamaha have cultivated this image of Yamaha motorcycle riders being a hard-hitting guy. This image has been converted in quite a successful profitable company that just keeps going on and on. Yamahas are the competition. They know it. If you ride one, you will know it.

Sometimes people may wonder what it is about riding a motorcycle that makes it so compelling. Some people wonder why anyone would want to take the risk of getting on a fast two-wheeled vehicle and apparently putting their well-being in jeopardy. For whatever reason, the ATV bug has bitten you. You’ve seen them on television or maybe you have a couple of friends that already go riding on the trails. Day in and day out, in all kinds of weather and in every season, people are enjoying recreational ATV trail riding.

The first thing you need to do is take a trip down to your local ATV dealership. Models with an automatic clutch will not have a foot peg for shifting; instead, there is a shifter for your left thumb on the handlebar. An ATV with automatic transmission has its drawbacks as well, as in order to have the machine engage the auto transmission, the driver must maintain a certain number of RPMs. This can be a problem when climbing steep, rocky terrain.

Another question is whether you need two-wheel or four-wheel drive, otherwise known as ‘two by two’ or ‘four by four’. A two-wheeled drive vehicle has the rear wheels do all the work and push the vehicle along, whereas a four-wheel drive employs all four wheels to provide better traction.

Four-wheel drives do cost more, but are good for extra traction in particularly tough terrain. Newer machines on the market will allow for ‘on-the-fly’ four-wheel drive, where the four-wheel drive is engaged as needed.

Finally, there is the choice of a drive shaft, chain, or belt drive. All three methods of drive are good ones, but an enclosed drive shaft seems to make better sense for various types of terrain.

With a chain or a belt drive, there is always the risk of snapping the chain or the belt while out on the trails, and then you might have to do some emergency repairs. In the end, the shaft drive will pay for itself with lower maintenance.

Kids just want to have fun on their ATVs

ATV riding can be really fun and unfortunately, dangerous too, if precautionary steps are not taken to ensure that you have a safe ride – especially for kids. As adults, we know and are able to sense danger and yes, we even have the ability to avoid them (most of the time!) – but are you confident that your kids are able to do the same? The answer, to be brutally honest is, no, they can’t. They may be able to detect “danger” around them from time to time but when they are having too much fun, their ability to sense “danger” seem to turn off automatically.

The following are some scenes that you may have witnessed before :-

1. Two boys, probably no more than 7 years old, riding and bouncing on an adult ATV around a farmyard. 7-year old boys are definitely not strong or big enough to be riding on an adult ATV – one sure wonders how they were able to manage that machine.

2. Three girls, with the oldest probably about 14 years of age, riding on a quad on a paved road, totally oblivious to the traffic around them. Doesn’t it make you sick to the stomach if they met with an accident?

3. Two boys probably in the ages of 10 or less, hanging on to the ATV utility carrier along the highway – and mind you, going at high speed too!

In some cases, kids who were riding on their ATVs were spotted doing so without their helmets too. Doesn’t it make you wonder what were the parents of the kids thinking when they allowed their children to go out to play unsupervised or when the parents allow their kids to ride on ATVs that were designed for adult riders?

Sure, all kids want to have fun with their ATVs – who wouldn’t? But we would like to remind you that fun could lead to danger, and in some cases, death too, if precautions are not taken. Here are some safety measures to take when your kids wants to go ATV riding :-
